Theme: Telephone Call To God
Scripture : Matthew 6:8-13
After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Points To Ponder
Prayer seems to be difficult for so many people. They just don’t know what to say
or how to say it. They feel clumsy in their words and uncomfortable in conveying
what they want to say to the Lord. He is so far away, up there somewhere? But
they are down here on earth, so how can they possibly say something that
matters to our Creator?
We make it harder than it needs to be.
Back when I was a youth pastor, at least once a year, I used to teach on this
subject. I wanted to teach the teenagers how to talk to God, the Big Guy, the Head
Man in Charge, the Holy One!
I would bring in a dummy phone and start talking to the group and all of a
sudden, I would throw it to someone and say “Let’s Call God right now. Here’s
use this!”
The point I was making is… we all know how to talk when we have phone in our
hand.
I then explained that prayer is nothing more than a conversation with someone
who cares about you and wants only the best for you. I then went on to say…they
will always answer and will never hang up.
Then…I explained the “manner” in which we should pray.
Acknowledge- show that you know He is the Creator.
Praise- Bless Him for Who He is, not for What he does.
Recognize- declare you know He controls all things and is the keeper of all.
Ask- this is where you make your petitions known AFTER APR
Acknowledge. Praise. Recognize!
That’s the perfect pattern of Prayer…look back at the “Lord’s Prayer” given as
our pattern for prayer.
Acknowledge- Our Father which art in heaven,
Praise- Hallowed be thy name.
Recognize- Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Ask- Give us this day our daily bread.
Ask- And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Ask- And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
Acknowledge- For thine is the kingdom,
Praise- and the power, and the glory,
Recognize- forever. Amen.
It’s as easy as that—like you would talk to someone you respect and admire,
maybe a grandparent.
You are conversing, talking, sharing, listening…with someone who is interested
in what you have to say.
Because He is…interested in what YOU have to say.
So…tell HIM already! Talk His ear off! Blow up HIS phone…He’s got unlimited
minutes!
Let’s Pray Together
God… this is me calling. I just wanted to share my day with you and see how your
day went. I know you are so busy, but you always have time for me and I
appreciate that. You made the heavens and the earth, but you stop to listen to
what I have to say, what’s on my mind, what’s hurting my heart. Thank you for
giving me your undivided attention. I feel so good when I get to talk to you
because I know I’ve talking to someone who cares about me.
Thank you for all you do….I love you!
Amen
