Theme: Give Me My Mountain
Scripture : Joshua 14:6-14
And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five
years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of
Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five
As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my
strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to
Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou
heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great
and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them
years old.
come in.
out, as the LORD said.
Points To Ponder
This is the story for us men of a certain age. Caleb was 80 years old and had
served the leader of Israel faithfully. First, Moses, and now, Joshua. He had done
all that was asked and dedicated his life to the man of God in both situations.
But now…he was reminding Joshua of the promise Moses made to him 40 years
prior.
Moses promised him that mountain—it would be his!
Hebron was its name—and Caleb wanted his Hebron!
At a time when most men are retiring their dreams as those that never happened,
or are rationalizing why they didn’t really want that dream anyway, or reminding
themselves that they got to do other things even IF they never got their Hebron…
Not Caleb!
I have a friend that I call Caleb.
At 66, he is travelling the world, in his spare time, as a missionary.
I say spare time because…he is a full time Missions Pastor at his church.
At 66?
Most people are deciding to move to Florida to get away from that snow and into
some sand.
Not Caleb…
Whether he is scaling Mount Hebron or flying to Namibia or Costa Rica or Brazil…
There’s just no giving up in a Caleb.
And the coolest thing about the story?
The enemies were still on his mountain…
And he didn’t ask for help in clearing his land.
He just needed permission to go take it…
He was going to clear that land himself—and evict or kill every one of those
enemies off HIS Land!
And…HE DID!
So…what’s your dream?
Everybody’s got a dream—something God promised them but hasn’t happened
yet.
Have you given up on it?
Are you too old now…
Have you let go of it…
Did you rationalize it away as being silly or unnecessary?
I have always said…
YOU gotta WORK YOUR DREAM!
That’s right—it takes work to see a dream come true—no one’s going to drop it in
your lap.
Think of the story of the talents—God’s given you all you need—whatcha gonna
do with it?
It’s all in your hands!
You ready to clear your land, kick out some squatters on your property…
Climb YOUR Mountain?
Come on Caleb…you can do it!
God’s not through with you yet—and you shouldn’t be through with YOU either!
Or…are you just too tired…and ready to retire?
Let’s Pray Together
Lord, I am reclaiming that dream you gave me years ago. You promised it to me,
and although I haven’t seen it yet, I still want it, I still believe you will grant it, and
Lord, I am still willing to work for it. I declare that your promises are yes and
amen, and I will rise up and take my mountain—I am NOT too old, it is NOT too
late!
This day I declare—
Give me my mountain!
In the name of Jesus I pray,
Amen
