Theme: You Are Your Brother’s Keeper
Scripture : II Samuel 9:2-13
And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when
they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he
said, Thy servant is he. And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of
Saul, that I may show the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the
King, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet. And the King said unto
him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the King, Behold he is in the house of
Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto
David, he fell on his face and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth, and
he answered, behold thy servant! And David said, fear not, for I will surely show
thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of
Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually!

Points To Ponder
Cain started the question; David answered it.
Am I my brother’s keeper? Yes…you really are!
This story shows respect, honor and duty…all on the part of David.
Saul was not very nice to David in the later years… he hunted David like an
enemy.
In the early years, when Saul had migraines, David would play on the harp for
him.
But then there was the time when David was anointed King WHILE Saul was still
King!
That didn’t go over well!
But… the answer to the proverbial question is…
We are responsible for those who cannot help themselves. Mephibosheth was
lame; Ziba knew of him. When David asked, Ziba could have just said “I don’t
know of anyone in Saul’s family who is still alive.” But he spoke up!
That started the chain of events that made a difference in an invalid’s life.
Sometimes—YOU have to be the Ziba in someone’s life!
YOU have to speak for those who can’t!
YOU need to accept the fact that YES YOU ARE YOUR Brother’s Keeper!
So many people look the other way…don’t want to get involved… just want to
pretend a need is not glaring up at you.
But…you need to…get involved!
Look where Mephibosheth would be if…Ziba looked the other way?
Not sitting at the King’s Table…I can tell you that!
You’re the only JESUS some will ever see..so be Jesus to them…like HE was to
you!
Let’s Pray Together
Heavenly Father, please give me a burden to help those who cannot help
themselves. Let my heart be tender toward them so I can feel their pain and let
your love flow out from me so I can make a difference in their life! Help me be
your hands extended here on earth. I want to be more like you…in my actions, not
just my words! Help me accept my responsibility to be my brother’s keeper!
In your precious name,
Amen
